Mystic Topaz Ring – Rainbows Galore

A mystic topaz ring is one option if you’re tired of blue, blue, blue, when it comes to topaz rings. A mystic topaz has a rainbow effect with many different colors being displayed – blues, greens, reds and yellows.

Mystic topaz refers to a specialized coloring process that enhances the color of white or clear topaz to give this rainbow effect. Remember, that your ring is made from genuine topaz – it is simply the color effect that is artificial.

The ring to your left shows a 8mm x 6mm (about 3/8th of an inch by 1/4 of an inch) mystic topaz stone set in 14 karat gold with 2 full cut diamonds.

You can see that you could wear this type of birthstone with any color outfit and it will simply pick up the colors of what you’re wearing.

This yellow gold ring also displays an emerald cut mystic topaz. The topaz measures 12 x 10 mm (about 1/2 an inch by 3/8th of an inch) with 4 full cut round diamonds.

Care of the mystic topaz

The people who designed this special color process recommend only using cleaners that are safe for pearls or opals on a mystic colored topaz. When they clean the gems in their own showroom they use “American” Windex and “Jewel Brite”. They also state that a mild soap and water rinse also works well.

The gemstone should not be subjected to high heat or abrasive type cleaners. An abrasive cleaner is likely to scratch the surface and because this color effect comes through the refraction of light (the ultra thin treatment layer makes the light refract differently to give you the rainbow effect) this would spoil the color of the birthstone.

So basically, although the topaz is a hard stone, care for it as if it was a soft gemstone such as the pearl or opal.
